The concept and creation of Visual GRASP© Accounting Software began in 1992. At that time there were several established players in the mid-range accounting software arena including ACCPAC, Business Visions, Classic 200, Inmass and Macola to name a few. Leading up to this period, Michael Cooper (founder and president of Grasp Software Corporation) was engaged as an M.I.S. (Manager of Information Systems) professional for a collection of about 40 different accounting software users.

A survey of these clients highlighted their disappointment in the accounting software available. Although sufficient in one area, they would be lacking in another, and, most importantly they did not allow the user to realize the full potential of using the data as a resource tool. The accounting software products that they were using were falling well short of meeting contemporary business needs that they required to publish timely management reports.

Inspired to action, he spent a year writing GRASP© Accounting Software which was released in 1993 as a premium mid-range accounting software maximizing full potential of data as a resource for multiple business requirements. It was designed and built on the core strengths of using database technology in the accounting function and offered a compelling alternative to other accounting products in the market. Very quickly a number of Cooper's key clients adopted the program. In 2000, GRASP© was rewritten into a Window's version and re-emerged as Visual GRASP© Accounting Software. Version 2.1 of Visual Grasp© has been fully adopted by Mike's established clients a year later. As well, a growing number of new clients have also made Visual Grasp© Accounting Software their business accounting software of choice. Version 3.0 was introduced to the market in September of 2008, continuing to build upon the excellent core strength and scalability of Visual Grasp© but bringing a new era of computer based licensing designed to target a price point that is makes it available to every size of company or organization.
